We're a founder-led, independent company building a modern marketplace platform for the future of work, connecting skilled service providers with customers through a seamless, scalable product.
Our MVP is currently in development with a third-party vendor. Were now bringing core engineering in- house and looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to take full ownership of the backend, stabilize the stack, and help shape our product as we scale.
This is a critical early hire responsible for taking over the existing backend codebase, infrastructure, and architecture. You'll work closely with the founding team, audit and improve the current system, and lead the platforms technical evolution. There's a clear path to grow into an Engineering Lead role.

Responsibilities:
- Take over an existing backend system from an external vendor
- Audit and improve code, architecture, infrastructure, microservices and data models
- Build and extend APIs using NestJS, Express.js, and Node.js
- Manage MongoDB performance and data structures with Mongoose
- Own deployments and infrastructure on DigitalOcean and Azure
- Set up or enhance CI/CD pipelines and observability tools (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana)
- Collaborate cross-functionally with frontend, product, and leadership
- Help define backend strategy and contribute to future team structure
- NestJS, Express.js, Node.js, TypeScript
- MongoDB, Mongoose, Studio 3T
- React.js (Frontend)
- Docker, Git, CI/CD, DigitalOcean, Azure
- Prometheus, Grafana, or similar monitoring tool
- 5+ years of backend engineering experience
- Deep knowledge of NestJS, Express.js, and MongoDB
- Experience taking over and improving external or legacy codebases
- Strong DevOps understanding: Docker, CI/CD, cloud deployments
- Proactive communicator comfortable working autonomously in a remote environment
- Experience with marketplaces or service platforms
- Proficiency with TypeScript
- Exposure to full MERN stack
- Familiarity with third-party integrations (e.g., payments, roles, notifications)
- Fully remote work.
