PATH is a global nonprofit dedicated to achieving health equity. With more than 40 years of experience forging multisector partnerships and with expertise in science, economics, technology, advocacy, and dozens of other specialties, PATH develops and scales up innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing heath challenges.

PATH is implementing the Rotary Healthy Communities Challenge (RHCC), which is funded jointly by Rotary International Foundation and The Gates Foundation as a multi-year effort to provide improved community health care. The RHCC project is designed to strengthen community healthcare systems by expanding access to quality healthcare. RHCC Nigeria’s vision is to reduce severe disease and death from malaria, pneumonia, diarrhea, the top killers of children under 5. This will be achieved through enhanced workforce capacity building and effective community engagement.

In Nigeria, community health care is coordinated through the National Primary Health Care Development Authority (NPHCDA) and supported and resourced through other national agencies, including the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP). The primary community health agents who deliver integrated community case management (iCCM) are the Community Health Influencer, Promoters and Services (CHIPS) agents. PATH, through the RHCC grant, intends to collaborate with Rotarians, NPHCDA, NMEP, state and local government teams to implement an expanded CHIPS programme in targeted areas in line with national guidelines for community case management.

PATH is seeking two (2) experienced Project Assistants to support the implementation and monitoring of the RHCC project, one each in Akwa Ibom and Kebbi states of Nigeria. Each Project Assistant will support RHCC data management by ensuring reliable data reporting through community health management information systems (HMIS), in line with the national guidelines and the RHCC M&E framework. The Project Assistant in each state will additionally support project administration, procurement, and finance documentation at the state level.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate all RHCC supported data management activities in the project state, including collating data on service delivery, service providers, supervision and trainings.
  • Coordinate monthly data validation meetings in collaboration with the state Primary Healthcare Development Agency, SPHCDA and (Local Government Area) LGA M&E officers.
  • In collaboration with Community Engagement Focal Person (CEFP), conduct monthly data quality checks of the primary CHIPS data to ensure high quality and follow up to ensure that all identified data quality issues are resolved by the person responsible.
  • Mentor CHIPS personnel, health facility workers, LGA and State officers on CHIPS data management.
  • Provide technical support on use of technology, such as troubleshooting issues arising from community data submission by CEFPs
  • Collaborate with the RHCC M&E Officer to plan and conduct data quality audit (DQA) exercises in selected service provider sites
  • Participate in routine and spot check visits to CHIPS personnel and CHEWs to conduct on-the-job training on the use of CHIPS data tools and ensure that service providers are using the national data tools.
  • Serve as a resource person on data management during trainings.
  • Support the RHCC State Coordinator to develop activity plans and reports.
  • Support the capacity building and routine mentoring and supervision of CHIPS personnel
  • Confirm quality and validity of items supplied by vendors.
  • Coordinate the collation of payment supporting documents from participants and vendors for all activities conducted in the state.
  • Prepare payment schedules for all activities and resolve failed payment issues
  • Perform other roles as may be assigned by supervisor.

Required Experience

  • B.Sc. in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or closely related discipline with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience in monitoring and evaluation.
  • Previous experience in using digital data collection tools and mobile devices (experience using for health interventions an added advantage).
