Job Objective

As CCO, you will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive commercial strategies that accelerate our path to profitability while expanding market penetration in both urban and rural areas.

What you will be doing

  • Set the commercial strategy of the department (sales targets, target categories/segments to unlock, target key suppliers, target number of suppliers to onboard, etc.)
  • Manage a team responsible for vendor acquisition, account management, commercial planning and vendor support
  • Scale the team and processes to support the growth of the company
  • Recruit qualified candidates to join the team
  • Meet with key vendors and suppliers to negotiate partnerships, contracts and service level agreements
  • Ensure regular, high-quality reporting of team actions and results
  • Manage KPIs and performance metrics to track commercial objectives
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, marketing, and finance teams to optimize commercial outcomes

What we are looking for

  • 10+ years of senior commercial leadership experience, preferably in e-commerce or marketplace businesses
  • Proven track record of driving revenue growth and achieving profitability in emerging markets
  • Experience in multi-country operations, preferably in Africa or similar emerging markets
  • Strong background in marketplace dynamics, seller management, and digital commerce
  • Experience with vendor relationship management and B2B partnerships
  • Deep understanding of e-commerce business models and marketplace operations
  • Excellent analytical skills with ability to interpret complex commercial data
  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities
  • Experience with pricing strategies, revenue optimization, and commercial planning
  • Cultural sensitivity and understanding of African markets preferred
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Economics, or related field
  • Additional certifications in digital commerce or emerging markets advantageous
