Managing Director, Securities Trading

Overview
Our client is a leading financial services group with subsidiaries across capital markets, securities trading, lending, and pensions. We are seeking to hire a managing director for their securities trading subsidiary that is a licensed securities dealer in Nigeria.
The managing director is responsible for growing all segments of the securities trading business, such as brokerage, sales, and investor services, in a profitable and cost-effective manner. You will also provide leadership to members of staff while sustainably growing the business by developing a strong customer-centric culture aimed at achieving high levels of customer satisfaction and product penetration. The role reports to the Group Managing Director.
Key Expectations
- Drive companywide performance typified in set profit, balance sheet expansion and market positioning
- Oversee all securities dealing activities of the company and grow trading volume and revenues on equity instruments in a profitable and cost-effective manner
- Manage the development and presentation of performance reports and benchmarking activities and coordinate the corporate performance management framework
- Ensure that the company continues to make profits and grow investors’ wealth
- Oversee sales and distribution of fund-raising mandates / transactions
- Develop business and marketing strategies to grow existing portfolio and identify new opportunities
- Understand customer needs and respond with products and services in order to achieve business objectives
- Develop executive contact plan and arrange meetings with appropriate Heads of Units
- Conduct joint calls with team, affiliates’ commercial and corporate branches with emphasis on cross selling to increase wallet share for the company
- Ensure that the business complies with internal legal and risk management policies as well as country regulations
- Build and maintain transparent relationships with external experts, business partners and regulatory authorities
- Define strategic initiatives to position the business in a sustainable growth path and drive the implementation
- Align departmental goals, processes and resource allocation with the organizational strategy
- Research and analyze industry, market and competitors to make informed strategy decisions
- Provide strategic advice to the Group to ensure it has an accurate view of the market and the company’s future
- Create initiatives to take advantage of market opportunities, reduce operational threats, forestall business risks and maximize core strengths
- Develop a strong culture within the team focused on high operational performance
Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines (Economics, Accounting or Finance related course)
- MSc or MBA in finance will be an added advantage
- Must be an Authorised Dealing Clerk
- Minimum of 10 years' experience with at least 4 years Management experience in the Capital Markets
- Ability to interact and negotiate effectively with internal and external customers
- Sound knowledge of Capital market
- Product knowledge, ideally across various asset classes
- Customer focused, results oriented and result driven
- Good organizational and time management skills are highly desirable
- Membership of a relevant professional body would be an advantage
- Strong communication skills are required
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Strong interpersonal skills, team-oriented and self-motivated with ability to work successfully under own initiative
