Job Objectives

  • Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of ship cranes to support cargo loading and discharge operations.
  • Ensures timely vessel turnaround by handling cargo in compliance with safety and operational standards.

Organisation: Dangote Ports Operations

Department: Operations

Office: GDNL Terminal ‘E’ Building Apapa Port Complex, Apapa Wharf, Lagos-Nigeria.

Reports to: Head of Operations

Job Responsibilities

  • Operate ship cranes for the loading and discharge of cargo.
  • Lift, move, and position cargo safely between vessels and quay areas.
  • Ensure prompt and efficient discharge of vessels to meet operational targets.
  • Conduct pre-operation checks to confirm crane functionality and safety.
  • Monitor crane performance and report any faults or abnormalities.
  • Follow established lifting procedures and safety guidelines at all times.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors during operations.
  • Avoid cargo damage through careful and controlled handling.
  • Adhere to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations.
  • Maintain operational logs and report activities as required.

Competence Requirements

  • Exceptional hand-eye coordination, sharp depth perception, and excellent spatial awareness. High physical fitness and visual stamina required to work at heights and execute prolonged shift patterns.
  • Good verbal communication skills with all cadre of staff.
  • High emotional stability, extreme focus, and the ability to remain completely calm and deliberate while driving high-risk machinery under operational pressure.
  • Not older than 35 years of age at the time of application.

Educational Qualification

  • Minimum of Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE / WAEC / NECO / GCE).

Professional Certification

  • Valid, certified Crane Operator License or formal vocational certification from a recognized industrial training or maritime regulatory body is an added advantage.

Desired Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years of active, hands-on working experience operating heavy-duty cranes within a maritime port terminal, heavy logistics yard, or industrial shipping environment is an added advantage.
