    Mentor Volunteer Description

    About Alexander Twilight Academy

Named after the first Black American to graduate from college in the United States,

Alexander Twilight Academy (ATA) is a free, longitudinal catalyst and high school and

college access program that provides hard-working, high-potential Boston-area students

from under-resourced backgrounds with the highest quality educational and life-enriching

opportunities. Through rigorous, year-round academic programming, coursework, support,

advocacy, enrichment, career exploration, and mentorship, ATA prepares middle school

students to earn admission and thrive at the nation's top high schools and colleges. ATA

makes a long-term commitment to serve each student and family we admit through high

school, college, and beyond. ATA develops leaders who will change the world and catalyzes

the next generation of great thinkers, creators, and changemakers to live meaningful lives

    of passion and purpose.

The Alexander Twilight Academy model was piloted during the summers of 2018 and 2019

and launched, in earnest, during the 2019-2020 school year. ATA has grown by adding a

new cohort of rising 6th grade students each year. ATA now serves five cohorts of students

in grades 6-10 and in the summer of 2025 will welcome its sixth cohort of students. As of

March 2025, 100% of the students in Alexander Twilight Academy’s first three cohorts of

students have earned admission and scholarships cumulatively totaling over $35M in

financial aid to independent boarding and day schools, as well as the Boston Exam Schools.

    Vision for Mentorship

Alexander Twilight Academy champions a vision for mentorship that pairs students and

mentors together in Mentor Pods as they navigate middle school and beyond. Mentors

serve as advocates, supporters, and guides, aiding students in exploring career possibilities,

developing new interests, and expanding their networks. This program integrates

seamlessly into ATA's broader mission to foster holistic development, educational access,

and community engagement. This mentorship role is more than a position; it's an

opportunity to make a substantial impact on students' lives while contributing to a vibrant

community. Mentors are crucial in shaping the pathways for our students’ success and are

valued members of the ATA community. We seek passionate individuals who are ready to

commit their time and hearts to this transformative work.
