Job Summary
Our client, a reputable healthcare organization in Lagos, is seeking a detail-oriented and highly analytical Accountant to support the finance function in ensuring accurate financial reporting, proper accountability of funds, and compliance with internal controls and regulatory standards.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all financial transactions are accurately recorded, revenues are properly captured, and funds are appropriately allocated to the correct accounts in line with organizational policies and approved financial procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Support the Head of Accounts in maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records.
- Ensure all financial transactions are properly recorded in the accounting system.
- Prepare and reconcile daily, weekly, and monthly financial reports.
- Assist in the preparation of management accounts and financial statements.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of revenue and expenditure.
- Ensure all funds received by the organization are properly receipted and accounted for.
- Verify that all income generated reflects accurately in the financial records.
- Ensure proper allocation of funds to the appropriate accounts and cost centres.
- Reconcile bank statements, cash accounts, and other financial records regularly.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in financial records promptly.
- Ensure that all revenue generated is fully captured and reported.
- Maintain strict adherence to internal financial policies and procedures.
- Support compliance with healthcare financial regulations and audit requirements.
- Ensure proper documentation and approval for all financial transactions.
- Support implementation of internal control procedures within the finance department.
- Ensure that all payments and expenditures are properly authorized and documented.
- Assist in strengthening financial control systems to prevent revenue leakages.
- Maintain proper filing and documentation of all accounting records.
- Assist in monitoring departmental budgets and expenditure patterns.
- Support variance analysis and reporting.
- Ensure spending aligns with approved budgets and organizational policies.
- Assist in maintaining accurate records of assets and liabilities.
- Support periodic stock and asset verification exercises.
- Ensure proper classification and recording of financial obligations.
- Work closely with the Head of Accounts and other finance team members.
- Liaise with departments to ensure accurate financial documentation.
- Support audit processes by providing required financial information.
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field.
- ICAN Certification (Mandatory)
- Professional membership in ICAN or active student membership is required.
- Additional certification (ACCA or equivalent) is an added advantage.
- 3–5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a healthcare or hospital environment.
- Strong experience in financial accounting, reconciliation, and reporting.
- Knowledge of healthcare revenue cycles is an added advantage.
- Experience in handling multiple financial transactions and fund allocations.
- Strong understanding of internal controls and financial compliance.
