Description

The Human Resources Professional serves as a critical member of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) Human Resources team, supporting the strategic and operational functions of the agency's personnel management systems. This position provides specialized, technical, and highly confidential support in the execution of human resources operations in a fast-paced, high-volume, and law enforcement-centric environment. This role is responsible for coordinating and performing complex human resources functions including employee relations, leave management, employee records, ad hoc reporting, new employee onboarding, separations, personnel file management, regulatory compliance, audits and TCOLE reporting. The incumbent also serves as a liaison to the Montgomery County Human Resources Department, Risk Management, the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE), and other internal and external partners to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, civil service rules, and department-specific policies.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Experience in-depth understanding of federal and state labor laws
  • Proficiency in managing HRIS, ATS, and investigative platforms
  • Ability to mediate disputes and resolve employee relations issues
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to assist policy review and present to leadership
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking ability
  • Ability to inspire a team, align HR strategies
  • Capacity to multitask, prioritize urgent employee needs, and operate efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive operational information

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field or
    • Three years of professional experience in a human resources role,
    • Combination of education and experience
  • SHRM or PHR Certification preferred but not required
  • Experience in law enforcement preferred but not required
  • Prior experience analyzing data from HRIS or ATS preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and resident of the contiguous United States for a period of time sufficient to conduct a background investigation
  • Must possess a current valid Texas driver's license and proof of liability insurance with no more than 3 moving violations in the past 3 years
  • No conviction above a Class B Misdemeanor or a Class B Misdemeanor within the last 10 years nor have been on or currently on court-ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offense
  • Must possess good communication skills, the ability to follow instructions, and the ability to work with the public
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Basic working knowledge of MS Office products
  • Must be able to work independently or with a group
  • Must be able to multitask and work well under pressure
  • Willingness to cross-train and accept additional duties as assigned
