SPIE Global Services Energy is currently looking for a Crane Operator to join its work force in Nigeria.

Key Responsibility:

  • Carries out daily lifting activities as requested/directed by the site
  • Ensure that all Lifting activities are carried out safely an in accordance with site procedure and the instruction of the Site Lifting specialist
  • Organizes on site the Rigging & Lifting operations which are placed under his responsibility,
  • Carry out rigging activities as directed and instructed in a safe manner
  • Operates the winches and other lifting/ handling devices for whatever purpose as instructed by authorized authority including material transfer to/from support vessels or other marine units, offloading operations, dismantling of pieces of equipment,
  • Drives the forklift as instructed,
  • Provides assistance in the areas related to lifting equipment operations, in handling/rigging, in the maintenance or inspection of the lifting equipment and devices.
  • Assists for equipment certification by Third Party; provides assistance for use of water bags and load cells as necessary
  • Ensures all worksites are clean and tidy on completion of works.
  • Ensures all problems are immediately highlighted to his Supervision and COMPANY.
  • Participates fully in Pre-work assessments and risk assessments and abides by the recommendations.
  • Ensures all near misses and accidents are reported to Company.
  • Works closely with the site Logistics coordinator and the Marine Team to ensure that the lifting activities planned on site are successfully executed.
  • Carry out First Level Maintenance on the Cranes and reports all abnormal findings to the Mechanical Supervisor
  • Performs maintenance repairs of lifting devices as instructed by hierarchy
  • Assists the Mechanical team on other mechanical activities taking place on site when crane activities are not taking place.

The holder of this post must have the following qualifications:

  • Ordinary National Certificate (ONC (GCSE's + 2 years' study) or City and Guilds Technician Certificate or equivalent,
  • If no Qualifications, the Holder must have (as a minimum) completed a recognised Trade Apprenticeship or verified technician training scheme, with a minimum of 5 years working experience.
  • Preferably 3 years' experience in the field of Maintenance and Repair on Oil and Gas installations,

Specific technical knowledge:

  • Offshore Crane operator certification approved by a competent authority agreed by COMPANY (as a minimum BS 7121 certification by a COMPANY's approved Authority).
  • Forklift driver operator certification approved by a competent authority agreed by COMPANY
  • Driver operator certification approved by a competent authority agreed by COMPANY for all other lifting equipment specified in Contract Appendix A.
