About The Role
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Pharmacist to join a leading oncology healthcare facility in Lekki, Lagos. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe procurement, preparation, dispensing, and monitoring of medications, with a strong focus on oncology pharmaceuticals and chemotherapy support.
The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with oncologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver safe, evidence-based pharmaceutical care while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Pharmaceutical Services
- Dispense prescription medications accurately in accordance with established protocols.
- Review prescriptions for accuracy, dosage appropriateness, drug interactions, and contraindications.
- Prepare and supervise the safe handling and dispensing of chemotherapy medications.
- Monitor patients for adverse drug reactions and medication effectiveness.
- Provide medication counseling to patients and caregivers.
- Participate in multidisciplinary clinical rounds and treatment planning.
- Ensure adequate stock levels of pharmaceuticals and oncology medications.
- Monitor inventory, expiry dates, and storage conditions.
- Coordinate procurement and replenishment of medicines and consumables.
- Maintain accurate pharmacy records and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) regulations and hospital policies.
- Maintain proper documentation of controlled drugs and narcotics.
- Participate in medication safety audits and quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure adherence to infection prevention and hazardous drug handling protocols.
- Educate patients on medication usage, dosage schedules, potential side effects, and adherence.
- Provide counseling on chemotherapy supportive medications and symptom management.
- Promote medication safety and rational drug use.
- Work closely with physicians, nurses, and laboratory teams to optimize patient outcomes.
- Participate in clinical meetings, case reviews, and pharmacy quality improvement activities.
- Stay updated on advances in oncology pharmacy practice and emerging therapies.
- Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy (B.Pharm or Pharm.D).
- Current practicing license with the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN).
- Certification or training in Oncology Pharmacy is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 3–5 years' post-qualification experience in a hospital pharmacy.
- Previous experience in oncology, chemotherapy preparation, or a specialist healthcare facility is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of chemotherapy protocols and oncology medications.
- Sound clinical and pharmaceutical knowledge.
- Experience with oncology and chemotherapy medications.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication and patient counseling skills.
