Our client is a leading renewable energy company focused on addressing Africa's power reliability challenges through clean energy solutions. The company provides modular and scalable solar energy systems for homes and businesses, enabling customers to reduce dependence on unreliable grid power and costly fossil-fuel generators.


Role Summary

The Chief Executive Director will provide visionary leadership to restore commercial momentum, stabilise operational execution, and scale the company across African markets. This role oversees all business operations, strategic direction, and financial performance, working closely with the Board, investors, and executive team to drive profitable growth, operational excellence, and organisational accountability.


Summary of Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute commercial strategies to drive revenue growth and market expansion across Africa.
  • Restore commercial predictability and improve financial and operational performance versus plan.
  • Strengthen organisational structure, processes, and operating discipline to support scaling and execution.
  • Work closely with the CFO and SVP Sales to strengthen commercial discipline, forecasting reliability, and accountability.
  • Establish accountability frameworks and execution cadence across the organisation.
  • Lead M&A, capital raising, and investment initiatives for geographic and product expansion.
  • Champion digital platform optimisation and technology-driven customer solutions.
  • Partner with the Board to shape long-term strategic direction and market positioning.
  • Build, mentor, and retain a high-performing executive team and organisation.
  • Foster a culture of integrity, accountability, innovation, and customer-centricity.
  • Lead talent development, succession planning, and organisational capability-building.
  • Maintain strong engagement with the Board, investors, and external stakeholders.
  • Represent the company with regulators and market partners to support growth and regulatory alignment.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and governance standards.
  • Support the path to sustainable EBITDA improvement and profitability.


Required Experience and Capabilities

  • Minimum 12–15 years of progressive commercial and operational leadership experience, with at least 5–7 years in a CEO or equivalent executive role.
  • Proven track record scaling operations in Nigeria or emerging African markets.
  • Experience in high-growth, operationally demanding environments (energy access, infrastructure, telecom, or distributed systems preferred).
  • Demonstrated capability managing commercial underperformance or operational turnarounds.
  • Strong experience working with institutional investors and Board structures.
  • Strong financial acumen, P&L accountability, and business strategy expertise.
  • Data-driven decision-making and business analytics proficiency.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Nigerian market, regulatory landscape, and business environment.
  • Understanding of renewable energy sector and clean technology trends (highly desirable).
  • Technology literacy and appreciation for digital-enabled business models.
  • Strong execution orientation, commercial rigor, and operational pragmatism.
  • Resilience, integrity, adaptability, and ability to lead effectively under pressure and complexity.
  • Collaborative and inclusive leadership style; ability to build and inspire high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong ethical standards and genuine alignment with impact-driven mission.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Economics, or related field.
  • MBA or equivalent advanced business qualification (highly desirable).
