Job Title: Abuja Head, Business Development (Insurance)
Location: Abuja, Nigeria
About the role
We require a high-caliber, strategic ‘’hunter’’ and executive leader capable of directly driving revenue growth and representing our brand at the highest corporate level.
Responsibilities
1. Business Development
- Develop and implement strategies to increase premium income and profitability.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities across corporate, SME, government, and retail sectors.
- Build strategic partnerships with brokers, agents, financial institutions, and corporate organizations.
- Lead negotiations and close high-value insurance contracts.
- Expand the company's presence within Abuja and other target markets.
2. Marketing Strategy
- Develop and execute comprehensive marketing plans aligned with the company's business objectives.
- Conduct market research to identify customer needs, market trends, and competitor activities.
- Position the company's insurance products effectively in the marketplace.
- Manage branding, advertising, public relations, and promotional campaigns.
3. Sales Leadership
- Set annual and quarterly sales targets for the marketing and business development team.
- Monitor sales performance and implement corrective actions where necessary.
- Recruit, train, coach, and motivate marketing executives and sales representatives.
- Develop incentive programs to improve team productivity.
4. Product Development
- Collaborate with underwriting, actuarial, and claims teams to develop customer-focused insurance products.
- Recommend improvements to existing products based on customer feedback and market demand.
- Support product launches and promotional activities.
5. Strategic Planning
- Contribute to the company's strategic planning and annual business plans.
- Prepare business development forecasts and revenue projections.
- Analyze business performance and recommend growth initiatives.
6. Reporting
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual performance reports.
- Present business development updates to executive management.
- Use data analytics to measure campaign effectiveness and sales performance.
Competencies
· Proven track record of mapping new market segments, designing entry strategies, and independently securing high-value corporate accounts.
· Exceptional capability to engage, negotiate with, and close complex deals with high level executives and key industry decision-makers.
· Deep understanding of sector-specific risk parameters, market dynamics, and regulatory frameworks (including complex risk placements and advanced policy structures).
· Extensive experience in structuring sophisticated commercial bids, underwriting alignment, and delivering high-impact executive presentations.
· Ability to mentor junior and middle-cadre teams, optimize sales pipelines, and collaborate with internal technical departments to fulfill client commitments.
Required Qualifications & Experience
· A minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience, with at least four (4) years in a managerial position.
· B.Sc/HND in Marketing/Insurance
· Associate member of either CIIN/CII
· Strong communication skills
· Proficiency in the use of a computer
· Ability to work independently and as a team member
