Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant to oversee the firm's financial operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, tax management, and effective internal controls. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in accounting principles, financial analysis, budgeting, and Nigerian tax regulations, with the ability to support sound financial decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure proper reconciliation of all accounts.
- Monitor cash flow and prepare financial forecasts.
- Prepare management reports and financial analysis to support business decisions.
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable functions.
- Process vendor payments and client receipts promptly.
- Reconcile bank statements and financial transactions.
- Monitor outstanding receivables and follow up on collections.
- Prepare and file statutory tax returns, including VAT, WHT, PAYE, and Company Income Tax.
- Ensure timely remittance of all statutory deductions.
- Liaise with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS), and other regulatory agencies.
- Ensure compliance with Nigerian tax laws and financial regulations.
- Support tax planning initiatives to improve tax efficiency.
- Assist in preparing annual budgets and financial forecasts.
- Monitor budget performance and report variances.
- Develop and maintain effective internal financial controls.
- Ensure compliance with company financial policies and procedures.
- Prepare documentation for internal and external audits.
- Respond to audit queries and implement audit recommendations.
- Maintain proper accounting documentation and records.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Support payroll preparation and statutory deductions.
- Maintain fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules.
- Monitor operational expenses and recommend cost-saving initiatives.
- Provide financial support to management as required.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
- ICAN (Professional Level/Qualified) is required.
- ACCA or ANAN certification will be an added advantage.
- Minimum of 3–5 years' relevant accounting experience.
- Previous experience in a law firm or professional services environment is an advantage.
