Job Overview
The Assistant Accountant (Depot) will assist the depot accountant in managing the accounting and financial operations of the assigned depot, ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective inventory control, compliance with company policies, and timely reconciliation of customer accounts. The successful candidate will support management by providing reliable financial information and maintaining strong internal controls.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate accounting records for all depot transactions in line with company policies.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly financial reports for management review.
- Reconcile bank accounts, customer accounts, and ledger balances on a timely basis.
- Monitor and reconcile inventory movements, ensuring proper accounting for stock receipts, transfers, and sales.
- Verify and post sales transactions, customer payments, and receipts accurately.
- Monitor outstanding receivables and follow up with the sales team on overdue customer balances.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations, including VAT, Withholding Tax, and e-invoicing requirements.
- Prepare monthly schedules for audit, statutory reporting, and management accounts.
- Maintain effective internal controls over cash, inventory, and financial transactions.
- Support annual audits and respond to internal and external audit queries.
- Ensure timely posting of journals, accruals, and other accounting entries into the ERP system.
- Perform any other finance-related duties as assigned by Management.
Education
- B.Sc. or HND in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or any related discipline.
- Minimum of 2–3 years’ accounting experience, preferably in the pharmaceutical, FMCG, or manufacturing industry.
- Experience in depot accounting, inventory management, and financial reporting is highly desirable.
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems (SAP, Tally ERP, Sage, or similar accounting software).
- Strong knowledge of financial accounting and reporting.
- Good understanding of inventory accounting and stock reconciliation.
- Knowledge of Nigerian tax regulations and statutory compliance.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong Microsoft Excel and ERP system skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet strict reporting deadlines.
- Must reside in Kano
- High level of integrity, accountability, and professionalism.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.
- Minimum age: 30–40 years.
