General Work Description

The Cleaning Machine Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining commodity cleaning equipment used in the processing of sesame, soyabeans, and other agricultural commodities. The role ensures the efficient removal of foreign materials and impurities while maintaining product quality, operational efficiency, food safety, and compliance with company standards. The incumbent is also responsible for conducting routine equipment checks, maintaining production records, supporting preventive maintenance activities, and ensuring a safe and clean working environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate commodity cleaning machines in accordance with approved operating procedures.
  • Conduct pre-operation inspections and ensure equipment is safe and ready for use.
  • Start, monitor, adjust, and shut down machinery safely and efficiently to achieve production targets.
  • Adjust machine settings such as airflow, screens, sieves, and feed rates to optimize cleaning performance.
  • Remove impurities including stones, dust, sticks, metal particles, damaged seeds, and other contaminants from commodities.
  • Monitor commodity quality throughout the cleaning process and promptly report quality concerns.
  • Record production output, downtime, machine performance, rejects, and operational activities.
  • Perform routine cleaning, lubrication, minor adjustments, and basic preventive maintenance activities.
  • Troubleshoot minor machine issues and escalate complex faults for corrective action.
  • Maintain cleanliness of machinery, workstations, and surrounding operational areas.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, quality, environmental, and Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing productivity, efficiency, and waste reduction.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Warehouse Supervisor or Administrative Manager.

Qualification, Experience, And Skills

  • Minimum of Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) or equivalent.
  • Technical or vocational training in mechanical, production, or industrial operations is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years' experience operating grain cleaning, agricultural processing, or industrial machinery.
  • Experience in sesame, soyabeans, grains, or other agricultural commodity processing is preferred.
  • Ability to operate and monitor industrial cleaning machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Basic mechanical troubleshooting and maintenance skills.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to product quality.
  • Good record-keeping and reporting skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet production targets.
