Job Description
Our client is a tertiary healthcare facility providing specialised care in oncology, cardiovascular medicine, renal care, advanced surgery and diagnostic services.
Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Perioperative Care Nurse to support the delivery of safe and coordinated nursing care throughout the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases of cardiac surgery. The successful candidate will work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, perfusionists, ICU nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure efficient theatre operations, patient safety, infection prevention, and continuity of care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive preoperative assessment and preparation of cardiac surgery patients.
- Verify patient identity, procedure, consent, investigations, and surgical readiness before surgery.
- Participate in surgical safety briefings, time-outs, and WHO Surgical Safety Checklist processes.
- Provide scrub and circulating nursing support during cardiac surgical procedures.
- Prepare and maintain the operating theatre, surgical instruments, equipment, and consumables.
- Ensure appropriate availability and sterility of surgical supplies and equipment.
- Assist the surgical and anaesthesia teams during procedures as required.
- Maintain strict aseptic technique and infection prevention standards.
- Monitor and document intraoperative events and nursing interventions. Requirements
Valid nursing registration and practising licence.
Minimum Of Three (3) Years Of Perioperative/theatre Nursing Experience.
Experience in cardiac or major surgical theatre is highly desirable.
Strong knowledge of surgical safety, aseptic technique, infection prevention, and perioperative protocols.
Experience with surgical instruments, equipment, and theatre workflows.
Current BLS certification; ACLS is an added advantage.
Excellent communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
Open to qualified local and expatriate candidates.
