We are looking for a proactive and client-focused Legal Officer to join our growing team and serves as the principal officer responsible for ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and corporate governance requirements. This role involves maintaining statutory records, managing board meetings, and acting as a liaison between the board of directors, management and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Vet legal documents involving transactions between the company and other bodies or members of public.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate laws, regulatory requirements, and governance standards.
  • Advise the board on governance best practices, legal matters, and potential risks.
  • Provide timely and accurate legal advice.
  • Organize and coordinate board meetings, including agenda preparation and minute-taking.
  • Ensure timely distribution of board documents and resolutions.
  • Maintain and update statutory registers, records, and corporate documents.
  • Prepare and file statutory returns with regulatory authorities (e.g., CAC).
  • Draft, review, revise and negotiate contracts, agreement and other legal documents on behalf of the company.
  • Oversee the development and monitoring of compliance frameworks.
  • Act as the point of contact for stakeholders, including shareholders, regulators, and auditors.
  • Facilitate transparent communication between the board and management.
  • Identify legal and governance risks, providing recommendations for mitigation.
  • Manage legal disputes, ensuring swift resolution in the organization’s best interest.

Qualifications

  • Be qualified to practice as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria
  • Have a minimum of 7 years post-call experience
  • Have substantial practical experience in litigation, corporate law, and regulatory compliance especially within the real estate sector.
  • Proficiency in drafting legal documents and board resolutions.
  • Be capable of working independently and without close supervision
  • Have proven ability to manage multiple cases and competing deadlines effectively
  • Possess excellent drafting, legal research and analytical skills
  • Demonstrate good professional judgment, integrity and attention to detail
  • Have excellent written and oral communication skills
