Role Description The Design Manager is responsible for leading and governing the technical design function across renewable energy and power infrastructure projects. The role ensures that all engineering designs are technically and commercially viable, safe, compliant with applicable standards and optimized for reliable project delivery. He / She will own the engineering design process from site assessment and concept development through detailed engineering, construction support, commissioning and final as-built documentation, ensuring consistent design standards across WATT’s portfolio.


Qualifications

  • Strong experience in renewable energy system design, particularly solar, wind, or biomass projects, including system sizing, layout, and technical specifications.
  • Proficiency with engineering and design software (e.g., AutoCAD, PV design tools, electrical design applications) and familiarity with relevant standards and codes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor multidisciplinary design teams, manage workflows, and coordinate with cross-functional project stakeholders.
  • Solid project management skills, including planning, scheduling, resource allocation, and risk assessment in an engineering or construction environment.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with attention to detail and a focus on safety, quality, and reliability.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare technical reports, design documentation, and presentations for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Renewable Energy Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree or relevant professional certifications are an asset.
  • Experience working in emerging markets or frontier economies, preferably within Nigeria or West Africa, and familiarity with local regulatory and grid requirements.
  • Ability to work on-site full time in Lagos State, Nigeria, travel to project locations as needed, and collaborate in a diverse, multicultural environment.
