About The Role

We are seeking an experienced, commercially minded, and hands-on Head of Finance & Accounts to lead the financial management and development of the organisation.

The successful candidate will be responsible for financial reporting, accounting operations, financial controls, cash-flow management, budgeting, statutory compliance, commercial finance, and strategic financial planning.

This is a senior management role for a finance professional who can build and scale a disciplined, technology-enabled finance function, rather than simply maintain accounting records.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Group CEO, senior management, the Board, auditors, tax advisers, financial institutions, and other professional advisers to ensure sound financial governance and support sustainable business growth.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Controls

  • Lead the day-to-day financial management of the organisation.
  • Establish and maintain robust financial controls, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitor cash position, liquidity, expenditure, revenue, and profitability.
  • Develop and maintain cash-flow forecasts and financial controls.
  • Ensure appropriate approval and spending controls across the organisation.
  • Promote financial discipline across all departments.


Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Maintain accurate and complete accounting records.
  • Supervise accounts payable and receivable functions.
  • Oversee invoicing, collections, bank reconciliations, and supplier payments.
  • Maintain the chart of accounts and ensure appropriate transaction classification.
  • Maintain accurate fixed asset and inventory records.
  • Prepare timely and accurate monthly management accounts.
  • Provide financial interpretation and insights to support management decision-making.


Management Reporting

Prepare comprehensive financial reports covering, where applicable:

  • Profit & Loss.
  • Balance Sheet.
  • Cash Flow.
  • Revenue Analysis.
  • MRR/ARR.
  • Customer Receivables.
  • Supplier Payables.
  • Operating Expenses.
  • Gross Margin.
  • EBITDA.
  • Capital Expenditure.
  • Budget vs. Actual Performance.
  • Cash Runway.
  • Customer and Service Profitability.
  • Key Financial Risks.


Cash-Flow & Treasury Management

  • Maintain weekly visibility of cash flow and liquidity.
  • Prepare rolling cash-flow forecasts.
  • Monitor customer collections and outstanding receivables.
  • Manage payment priorities and supplier obligations.
  • Identify potential cash-flow constraints and recommend mitigation measures.
  • Ensure financial commitments remain within approved financial capacity.
  • Provide regular cash-flow updates to senior management.


Revenue & Collections

  • Work closely with Sales and Operations to ensure all revenue is accurately captured and collected.
  • Oversee customer billing, invoicing, receivables, and collections.
  • Monitor overdue accounts and credit exposure.
  • Ensure appropriate revenue recognition.
  • Track subscription and recurring revenue.
  • Reconcile customer accounts.
  • Identify and minimise revenue leakage.


Budgeting & Financial Planning

  • Lead the annual budgeting and financial planning process.
  • Develop departmental and operating budgets.
  • Prepare revenue and expenditure forecasts.
  • Develop capital expenditure budgets and cash-flow projections.
  • Conduct scenario analysis and financial modelling.
  • Work with business leaders to align budgets with strategic objectives.
  • Monitor budget performance and recommend corrective actions where required.


Commercial Finance & Business Analysis

  • Analyse customer acquisition cost, customer lifetime value, average revenue per customer, and contribution margins.
  • Evaluate gross margin and customer profitability.
  • Analyse infrastructure, installation, bandwidth, and operational costs.
  • Assess service and product profitability.
  • Provide financial insights to support pricing, investment, expansion, and commercial decisions.
  • Support management in identifying the most profitable customers, services, products, and locations.


Infrastructure & Technology Finance

  • Work with Technology and Operations teams to assess the financial implications of infrastructure investments.
  • Evaluate network deployment, last-mile infrastructure, broadband equipment, cloud infrastructure, NOC costs, installation, maintenance, and vendor contracts.
  • Prepare financial analysis covering investment costs, expected revenue, payback periods, and ROI before major infrastructure commitments are made.


Procurement & Cost Management

  • Establish appropriate financial controls around procurement and expenditure.
  • Review purchase approvals, supplier documentation, purchase orders, and vendor payments.
  • Conduct cost comparisons and assess budget availability.
  • Review contracts from a financial perspective.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation and approval of expenditures.
  • Identify opportunities for cost optimisation and prevent unauthorised spending.


Tax & Statutory Compliance

  • Ensure timely and accurate compliance with applicable Nigerian statutory obligations.
  • Oversee VAT, PAYE, pension, withholding tax, company tax, applicable levies, and other statutory filings.
  • Work with external tax advisers, auditors, and professional advisers where necessary.


Payroll

  • Supervise the payroll process and ensure accurate and timely salary processing.
  • Oversee payroll reconciliation, PAYE, pension, deductions, benefits, and payroll reporting.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of payroll and employee financial information.


Audit & Governance

  • Coordinate internal and external financial audits.
  • Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation.
  • Respond to audit queries and implement agreed recommendations.
  • Maintain continuous audit readiness.
  • Work effectively with external auditors and professional advisers.


Investment & Fundraising Support

  • Support senior management and the Board in preparing the organisation for investment and financing opportunities.
  • Develop financial models, forecasts, funding scenarios, and investment analyses.
  • Support investor due diligence and preparation of financial information.
  • Assist with data-room preparation and investor reporting.
  • Ensure the organisation's financial records and reporting are investment-ready.


Finance Technology & Automation

  • Support the implementation and optimisation of accounting software, ERP systems, payment platforms, automated reconciliations, digital invoicing, financial dashboards, and payroll systems.
  • Identify opportunities to automate finance processes and improve reporting efficiency.
  • Build a scalable finance function that can support business growth without unnecessary administrative overhead.


Finance Team Development

  • Build, lead, train, and develop an effective Finance & Accounts team.
  • Establish clear responsibilities, processes, controls, and performance expectations.
  • Develop the finance structure in line with business growth and operational requirements.


Key Performance Indicators

Performance will be measured against agreed KPIs, including:

  • Accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting.
  • Effectiveness of internal financial controls.
  • Cash-flow visibility and forecast accuracy.
  • Receivables and collection efficiency.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Professional qualification such as ICAN, ACCA, ACA, CIMA, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 7–12 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Nigerian accounting, taxation, and statutory requirements.
  • Strong financial reporting, analysis, and modelling capabilities.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modelling.
  • Experience working with accounting software, ERP, or financial management systems.
  • Strong understanding of cash-flow management and financial controls.
  • Demonstrated commercial and strategic thinking ability.


Preferred Industry Experience

Experience in one or more of the following sectors will be advantageous:
