Backend Developer Intern
Role Overview
We are looking for a Backend Developer Intern to support the development, testing, and maintenance of the server-side components of our applications.
You will work with the development team to build APIs, implement business logic, work with databases, integrate third-party services, and help ensure our applications are secure, reliable, and scalable.
Training & Project Requirement: This role requires that the individual should have completed a relevant training. A personal or group project is acceptable following this — and even better, prior experience on a live project is considered an added advantage.
Responsibilities
- Assist in developing and maintaining backend services and REST APIs.
- Implement application business logic based on product requirements.
- Work with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
- Assist with database schema design, queries, migrations, and data validation.
- Integrate third-party services and APIs.
- Implement authentication, authorization, and access-control features.
- Help identify and fix backend bugs.
- Write clean, reusable, and maintainable code.
- Participate in code reviews and technical discussions.
- Write unit and integration tests for backend functionality.
- Assist with API documentation.
- Use Git and GitHub for source control and collaboration.
- Work with frontend developers to integrate APIs.
- Follow security and data-protection best practices.
- Basic understanding of JavaScript and/or TypeScript.
- Familiarity with Node.js.
- Knowledge of backend frameworks such as NestJS, Express.js, or similar technologies.
- Basic understanding of SQL and relational databases.
- Familiarity with REST APIs and JSON.
- Basic understanding of authentication concepts such as JWT, sessions, and role-based access control.
- Familiarity with Git and GitHub.
- Understanding of HTTP methods, status codes, and client-server architecture.
- Experience with PostgreSQL.
- Familiarity with Docker.
- Knowledge of Redis, queues, background jobs, or caching.
- Experience integrating payment, email, SMS, identity verification, or other external APIs.
- Basic understanding of cloud deployment.
- Strong willingness to learn.
- Good problem-solving skills.
- Ability to understand technical requirements.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate problems clearly.
- Comfortable asking questions when requirements are unclear.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other developers and designers.
