Job Summary

The Creation and Design Lab organization within IFF is at the forefront to discover and develop new innovative ingredients and flavors for all kinds of food application focusing on the Beverages, Sweet Goods & Dairy, Snacks, Bakery, Culinary, Natural, and other exciting categories.

Taste - Crafting unique, technology-enabled flavor designs that define the identity of food and beverage brands, shape trends in flavor building and fuel market success.

Sr. Application technologists in IFF are specialists whose primary goal is to support customers with providing them with suitable Solution for their applications and guide Flavorist's in the flavor development process. To do so, Application Technologists analyses current flavor trends, fore-cast future trends, and assess consumer preferences and apply flavors / Ingredients to end applications. Reporting to the Design Manager, Nigeria for the ESA.

Sr. Application Technologist for our Creation & Design team for the English Speaking Africa (ESA, Nigeria) to focus on our exciting Alcoholic Beverages categories. and based in our Lagos office.

Where You’ll Make a Difference

  • Will be a key player in our C&D team and will mainly be responsible for evaluating and applying flavors / Ingredients in food applications for Alcoholic Beverage applications which includes carbonated drinks, Juice drinks, still drinks, and selecting the optimal flavors / Ingredients for customer projects in the ESA.
  • Will proactively and reactively work on internal and Customer briefs, but also come with proactive ideas that will help our Customers to bring consumer preferred and differentiating products to the market.
  • Responsible for all technical communications with Customers in the ESA for Alcoholic Beverages.
  • To contribute to winning briefs and successful delivery of projects.
  • Develop concept presentations and present flavors / Ingredients and products concepts to Customers
  • Work with our Customers to optimize their recipes.
  • Support our customers in trial productions of new recipes or implementing solutions from
  • Do customer visits, presenting ready-to-consume products or to support with customer trails.
  • Apply and evaluate flavors / Ingredients for Alcoholic Beverages for relevant briefs.
  • Proactively monitor flavor performance and stability
  • Select optimal flavors / Ingredients for projects according to all relevant requirements (taste profile, legislation, technical suitability, costs, etc.).
  • Identify appropriate flavor, Ingredients or delivery systems and technologies.
  • Translate market trends into new product concepts and developments.
  • Maintain effective relationships with our key customers, and able to gain their trust and respect
  • Actively maintain the flavor performance data for the flavor portfolio through evaluation in finished products and capture of profiles
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized lab environment in accordance with IFF safety policies

What Makes You The Right Fit

  • At least a bachelor's degree in Food Science or Food Technology.
  • Have a minimum of 10- 12 years of relevant work experience focusing on the Beverages & Dairy categories, in a food applications lab or production facility with a Flavor / ingredients house or a reputed company in the food
  • Have a strong passion and interest for new flavors, foods, and well-developed tasting skills.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of most food applications, ingredients, and processes with practical experience in Customers’ food manufacturing environment.
  • Basic understanding of many of the flavor reactions/interactions in common food products and the ability to recommend flavor / Ingredients modifications based on performance.
  • Have excellent project management skills and able to manage complex development projects and briefs.
  • Expert technical problem-solving skills in specific applications and basic skills in multiple applications areas.
  • Ability to translate market trends into innovative products for key Customers.

  • Strong oral and written proficiency in the English language. Proficiency in additional languages like Arabic and/or French will be advantageous but not mandatory.
