QA Engineer
CapitalSage Holdings
Remote
We are seeking an experienced Mid-Level QA Engineer to independently plan, execute, and deliver high-quality testing across web, mobile, API, and backend applications. In this role, you will take ownership of testing activities from initial requirement analysis through to final release validation. You bring strong experience in manual testing combined with practical expertise in test automation, API testing, and performance validation. Beyond daily testing, you will contribute directly to our overall QA strategy, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate closely with Engineering, Product, and Business stakeholders to embed quality early into the software development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Design strategy: Analyze documentation (user stories, PRDs) to build comprehensive test plans, risk profiles, and coverage matrices.
- Estimate timelines: Provide realistic testing estimates and call out potential blockers or system dependencies early.
- Assess release readiness: Guide release planning by providing data-driven recommendations on regression coverage and quality gates.
- Execute end-to-end tests: Lead complex functional, integration, system, regression, and exploratory testing across web and mobile platforms.
- Uncover edge cases: Map out intricate business workflows and integrations to expose hidden defects and unexpected system behaviors.
- Validate production: Perform post-release smoke testing and ensure all bugs are rigorously verified before closure.
API & UI Automation
- Automate API layers: Design and maintain automated API regression suites using Postman or custom scripts, validating payloads, status codes, and security.
- Build UI frameworks: Create scalable, maintainable UI automation components using Playwright or Cypress.
- Integrate pipelines: Hook automated test suites directly into Git-based CI/CD workflows (GitHub) to enhance continuous testing.
- Run load tests: Plan and execute stress, and scalability testing using Apache JMeter to identify architectural bottlenecks.
- Validate basic security: Inspect applications for common security flaws like broken access control, injection vulnerabilities, and insecure API endpoints.
Defect Management & Process Improvement
- Perform root-cause analysis: Document highly technical bug reports in Jira (with logs, traces, and evidence) and lead triage meetings with developers.
- Drive shift-left QA: Identify gaps in the current SDLC and champion standard operating procedures to reduce repetitive manual overhead.
- Support junior engineers: Review team test cases, provide constructive feedback, and share technical knowledge on automation and tooling.
- Sync with stakeholders: Actively participate in all Agile ceremonies, acting as the primary advocate for quality during product discussions.
