ROLE SUMMARY
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for leading the financial strategy, governance, treasury management, financial planning, regulatory reporting, and capital management of the organization. The role ensures the company's financial health, sustainability, profitability, and compliance while supporting strategic growth initiatives in a PayZeep.
The CFO serves as a strategic advisor to the MD and Board, providing critical financial insights that drive business performance, investment decisions, fundraising activities, and long-term shareholder value creation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own financial strategy, budgeting, forecasting, capital planning and fundraising support.
- Lead treasury, liquidity and settlement-funding management for payment operations.
- Ensure timely, accurate statutory and regulatory financial reporting to the CBN, FIRS and other relevant bodies.
- Build and lead the Finance function including Accounting, FP&A, Tax and Treasury.
- Design and maintain robust financial controls, close processes and audit readiness (external and CBN examinations).
- Partner with the CEO and Board on capital structure, investor relations and M&A/partnership evaluation.
- Own pricing, unit-economics and margin analysis across payment products.
- Oversee treasury operations, cash flow management, and liquidity planning.
- Ensure adequate funding for payment processing, settlement operations, and business activities.
- Monitor capital adequacy requirements and maintain optimal capital structure.
- Develop strategies to improve working capital efficiency.
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Coordinate external audits, regulatory reviews, and internal audit activities.
- Maintain a strong financial governance framework.
- Manage relationships with investors, lenders, shareholders, and financial stakeholders.
- Prepare board reports, investor presentations, and financial performance updates.
- Provide financial leadership during mergers, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships.
- Establish and maintain robust internal controls and financial policies.
- Identify and mitigate financial, operational, and strategic risks.
- Collaborate with Risk, Compliance, and Audit functions to strengthen governance practices.
- Monitor financial exposures and recommend risk mitigation strategies.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
- Establish performance metrics and development plans for finance personnel
- Drive financial literacy and business partnering across the organization.
- Lead pricing, profitability, unit economics, and business performance analysis.
- Evaluate product economics and revenue optimization opportunities.
- Support executive decision-making through financial insights and analytics.
- Develop KPI dashboards and performance measurement frameworks.
- Drive operational efficiencies and cost optimization initiatives.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field (required).
- Professional accounting qualification required: ICAN, ACCA, ACA or CFA.
- MBA or Master's in Finance is an advantage.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Total Relevant Experience: 10 -15 years
Fintech / Financial Services Experience: 10+ years in fintech, banking or financial-services finance leadership
Leadership / People-Management Experience: 7+ years in senior finance leadership roles, including at least 3 years as Head of Finance/Finance Director or above, with clear evidence of building and leading finance teams

REGULATORY CONSIDERATIONS (NIGERIA)
- Accountable for timely and accurate CBN prudential returns and other statutory filings applicable to PayZeep's licence category.
- Ensures compliance with FIRS tax obligations (CIT, VAT, WHT) and other Nigerian statutory levies (Pension Reform Act, ITF, NSITF).
