Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced, strategic, and results-driven Senior Human Resources Officer to oversee and coordinate key HR functions within a healthcare and oncology environment. The successful candidate will play a critical role in driving effective people management, workforce planning, talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, and HR compliance.

The ideal candidate must possess strong HR operational expertise, sound knowledge of Nigerian labour laws, excellent stakeholder management skills, and the ability to align HR practices with organisational objectives while maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality, professionalism, and employee welfare.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic HR Operations and Workforce Planning

  • Coordinate the implementation of HR policies, procedures, and operational plans in line with organisational objectives.
  • Work with management and departmental heads to identify staffing needs, workforce gaps, and recruitment priorities.
  • Monitor workforce composition, staffing levels, employee turnover, and manpower requirements.
  • Recommend improvements to HR processes, structures, and administrative systems to enhance efficiency.
  • Ensure consistent implementation of HR policies across departments.


2. Recruitment and Talent Acquisition

  • Manage end-to-end recruitment activities, including job analysis, vacancy announcements, candidate screening, interviews, assessments, reference checks, and selection.
  • Partner with departmental heads to define job requirements and establish appropriate candidate selection criteria.
  • Coordinate recruitment for clinical and non-clinical positions, ensuring that candidates possess the required qualifications and experience.
  • Oversee onboarding, orientation, probation monitoring, confirmation, and integration of new employees.
  • Maintain an effective talent pipeline and recruitment database to support current and future workforce needs.
  • Monitor recruitment timelines and provide updates on recruitment progress and staffing requirements.


3. Employee Relations and Conflict Resolution

  • Serve as a senior point of contact for employee relations matters, workplace concerns, and HR-related enquiries.
  • Manage employee grievances, disciplinary cases, workplace investigations, and conflict resolution in accordance with company policy and applicable law.
  • Advise management on employee relations, conduct, attendance, performance concerns, and appropriate disciplinary procedures.
  • Ensure fair, consistent, and confidential handling of sensitive employee matters.
  • Promote a professional, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture.
  • Support employee engagement, welfare, retention, and workplace satisfaction initiatives.


4. Performance Management and Organisational Development

  • Coordinate the organisation's performance management and appraisal processes.
  • Work with departmental heads to establish performance objectives, key performance indicators, and evaluation timelines.
  • Monitor probation reviews, confirmation decisions, performance improvement plans, and employee development needs.
  • Identify skills gaps and coordinate training and development initiatives.
  • Support succession planning, talent development, and internal career progression.
  • Provide management with insights and recommendations on employee performance and workforce effectiveness.


5. Compensation, Benefits and Payroll Administration

  • Coordinate HR inputs for monthly payroll, ensuring the accuracy of staff information, attendance, leave, allowances, and approved deductions.
  • Liaise with Finance or Payroll teams to facilitate timely and accurate salary processing.
  • Support the administration of employee benefits, compensation reviews, salary adjustments, and promotion-related changes.
  • Maintain accurate records of employee compensation, benefits, and relevant statutory documentation.
  • Support the administration and documentation of applicable pension, tax, and other statutory employment obligations.
  • Assist with salary benchmarking and compensation analysis to promote internal equity and market competitiveness.


6. HR Compliance, Policies and Employee Documentation

  • Ensure HR practices comply with applicable Nigerian labour laws, employment regulations, and relevant statutory requirements.
  • Develop, review, and update HR policies, procedures, employee handbooks, and standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee files, employment contracts, personnel records, and HR databases.
  • Coordinate employment documentation, contract renewals, confirmation letters, disciplinary records, and exit documentation.
  • Support internal HR audits, compliance reviews, and regulatory inspections.
  • Ensure appropriate handling of personal information in line with applicable data protection requirements.
  • Monitor compliance with workplace policies, professional conduct standards, and organisational procedures.


7. Healthcare and Oncology Workforce Management

  • Support workforce planning for clinical, administrative, technical, and support functions within the healthcare environment.
  • Coordinate verification of professional qualifications, licences, certifications, references, and other employment credentials, as applicable.
  • Maintain accurate records of mandatory training, professional registration, and relevant competency documentation.
  • Support the implementation of policies relating to patient confidentiality, professional ethics, safeguarding, and workplace safety.
  • Work with clinical and departmental leadership to address staffing challenges, employee development, and workforce continuity.
  • Promote HR practices that support service quality, accountability, and professionalism in a specialist healthcare setting.


8. HR Reporting, Analytics and Management Advisory

  • Prepare and present periodic HR reports covering headcount, recruitment, turnover, absenteeism, employee relations, payroll inputs, and workforce costs.
  • Analyse HR data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain HR dashboards, employee databases, and workforce documentation.
  • Provide management with evidence-based recommendations on staffing, employee performance, retention, and HR operational effectiveness.
  • Track HR deliverables and ensure timely completion of assigned activities.
  • Perform other relevant duties as may be assigned by management.


Qualifications And Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or HND in Human Resources Management, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • 4–6 years of progressive HR experience, preferably with demonstrated responsibility for independently managing core HR functions.
  • Previous experience in healthcare, hospitals, specialist clinics, diagnostic centres, oncology, or another regulated industry is highly desirable.
  • Strong working knowledge of Nigerian labour laws, employee relations, HR policies, and employment documentation.
  • Demonstrable experience in recruitment, workforce planning, performance management, compensation administration, and HR compliance.
  • Experience managing employee grievances, disciplinary matters, workplace investigations, and conflict resolution.
  • Strong understanding of payroll coordination, statutory employment obligations, and employee benefits administration.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with HR Information Systems (HRIS), payroll platforms, or other HR management tools is an advantage.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong report-writing, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • High standards of integrity, confidentiality, attention to detail, and professional judgement.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, work independently, and collaborate effectively with senior management and departmental heads.


Professional Certifications

  • CIPM (Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria) — relevant professional certification or evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) — an advantage.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP — an advantage.
  • Additional training or certifications in employment law, employee relations, HR analytics, compensation and benefits, or organisational development will be beneficial.


Relevant professional certification is preferred, particularly where it demonstrates practical HR competence and commitment to continuous professional development.
