ROLE SUMMARY
The PR & Communications Specialist is responsible for strengthening PayZeep’s reputation, visibility, stakeholder relationships and corporate narrative across internal and external audiences. The role combines public relations, corporate communications, content coordination, media relations, internal communications, event communications, reputation management and generalist Marketing Operations. The role ensures that communications are timely, consistent, audience-relevant, measurable and aligned with PayZeep’s brand, business priorities, leadership direction and applicable Legal & Compliance requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and execute PR and communications plans aligned with PayZeep’s Brand, Communications & Marketing strategy.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, media houses, industry publications, influencers and relevant opinion leaders.
- Develop press releases, media pitches, media advisories, statements, FAQs, briefing notes and other PR materials.
- Identify and secure relevant media, editorial, speaking and thought-leadership opportunities that strengthen PayZeep’s reputation and visibility.
- Coordinate media interviews, editorial features, speaking opportunities and other engagements for approved company representatives.
- Manage media enquiries promptly and coordinate appropriate internal reviews and responses.
- Maintain an accurate media and stakeholder database and track the quality and relevance of media relationships.
- Draft and edit corporate announcements, executive messages, speeches, talking points, leadership briefs, newsletters, memos and stakeholder communications.
- Translate business priorities, milestones and strategic initiatives into clear, credible and audience-relevant communications.
- Support communications around partnerships, launches, events, awards, organisational updates and other corporate developments.
- Prepare communication toolkits, briefing documents and talking points for leadership and approved spokespeople.
- Maintain consistency in PayZeep’s corporate voice, messaging and positioning across communication touchpoints.
- Plan and deliver internal communications that keep employees informed, aligned and engaged
- Develop internal announcements, newsletters, campaign messages, employee updates and leadership communications.
- Work with People & Culture and other functions to support employee engagement initiatives, culture programmes and organisational moments.
- Support employer-brand storytelling and communications that strengthen PayZeep’s employee value proposition and talent narrative.
- Track internal communication effectiveness and recommend improvements based on employee feedback and engagement.
- Monitor PayZeep’s reputation across media, digital channels and relevant stakeholder conversations.
- Maintain and improve crisis communication protocols, holding statements, escalation pathways, Q&As and spokesperson guidance.
- Support rapid coordination of communications during reputational, operational or business-critical incidents.
- Coordinate with Legal & Compliance, Operations, Business Continuity/BCM, leadership and other relevant teams before external communication where required.
- Ensure sensitive communications follow approved governance, escalation and spokesperson processes, with accurate records of issues, responses and outcomes.
- Translate business priorities, campaigns and corporate developments into relevant communication and storytelling opportunities.
- Support editorial calendars, communication plans and content schedules across relevant channels.
- Review and proofread copy, scripts, captions, articles, presentations and corporate materials for clarity, tone, accuracy and consistency.
- Collaborate with Brand, Creative and Content team members to develop briefs for graphics, video, photography and other communication assets.
- Coordinate marketing workplans, calendars, trackers, activity schedules and campaign deliverables across the Brand, Communications & Marketing team.
- Coordinate campaign execution across communications, content, events, partnerships, digital channels and other relevant workstreams.
- Support campaign briefing, execution tracking, documentation, post-campaign reviews and lessons learned.
- Maintain organised repositories for communication assets, media lists, reports, campaign documents, approvals and marketing records.
- Coordinate with Sales, Product, Customer Experience, Operations, People & Culture, Legal & Compliance, Finance and other functions where marketing execution requires alignment.
- Support planning and execution of conferences, exhibitions, corporate events, sponsorships, media events, CSR initiatives and stakeholder engagements.
- Develop event communication plans, invitations, briefing notes, talking points, media materials and post-event communications.
- Coordinate with internal teams, partners, vendors and external stakeholders to deliver agreed communication requirements.
- Identify emerging topics, trends, risks and opportunities that may affect PayZeep’s reputation, communications or marketing priorities.
- Prepare concise monitoring reports and insights for management and the Brand, Communications & Marketing team.
- Ensure PR, communications and marketing activities comply with PayZeep’s brand guidelines, approved messaging and applicable Legal & Compliance requirements.
- Coordinate required reviews and approvals before publishing sensitive, regulated, corporate or externally facing communications.
- Stay informed about regulatory and reputational considerations relevant to communications within the fintech environment.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in mass communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Business Administration or a related field (required).
- Professional certification in PR, Marketing, Communications or a related field is an advantage.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Total Relevant Experience: 3-6 years
Fintech / Financial Services Experience: 2+ years in Fintech space

- Ability to create wireframes, prototypes, user flows, and customer journey maps.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong editing, proofreading and storytelling ability.
- Strong media relations, stakeholder management and corporate communications capability.
- Ability to develop clear, compelling and audience-appropriate narratives.
- Strong understanding of reputation management and crisis communications.
- Marketing Operations, project coordination and cross-functional execution skills.
- Campaign planning, content coordination and event management capability.
- Data interpretation, reporting and performance tracking.
- Strong organization, prioritization, attention to detail and follow-through.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Sound judgement, discretion and professionalism, particularly when handling sensitive information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Google Workspace and familiarity with marketing, collaboration or project-management tools.

- Supports compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) and relevant data security requirements.
