Job Summary
We are seeking a proactive, organised and detail-oriented HR Officer to support the effective management of human resources within a specialist healthcare and oncology environment.
The successful candidate will oversee day-to-day HR operations, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, payroll coordination, training, HR documentation and regulatory compliance. The role requires a professional who can manage confidential information, support clinical and non-clinical employees, and ensure the consistent implementation of HR policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
1. Recruitment and Talent Acquisition
- Coordinate end-to-end recruitment for clinical and non-clinical positions, including job postings, CV screening, interview scheduling and candidate communication.
- Support the development and review of job descriptions and person specifications.
- Coordinate reference checks, background checks and pre-employment documentation.
- Maintain an updated recruitment tracker and talent database.
- Ensure timely recruitment and onboarding of qualified personnel.
- Prepare offer letters, employment contracts, confirmation letters and other HR correspondence.
- Coordinate staff orientation, induction and onboarding activities.
- Maintain accurate, confidential and up-to-date employee records, both electronically and in physical files.
- Manage leave requests, attendance records, staff movements, confirmations, promotions and exit documentation.
- Maintain trackers for professional licences, certifications and other relevant employee credentials.
- Serve as the first point of contact for employees on HR policies, procedures and workplace concerns.
- Support the resolution of grievances and workplace conflicts in line with company policies.
- Coordinate disciplinary processes and ensure proper documentation.
- Support employee engagement, welfare, retention and workplace culture initiatives.
- Promote professionalism, confidentiality, accountability and respect across the organisation.
- Coordinate performance appraisals and follow up with department heads on timely completion.
- Support the implementation of performance improvement plans and employee development initiatives.
- Identify training needs and coordinate relevant learning programmes.
- Maintain training records and monitor completion of mandatory training.
- Collate and verify monthly payroll inputs, including attendance, leave, overtime, allowances and deductions.
- Liaise with Finance to support accurate and timely payroll processing.
- Assist with the administration of employee benefits and statutory contributions.
- Maintain accurate compensation records and respond to routine payroll-related enquiries.
- Support compliance with applicable Nigerian labour laws, employment policies and relevant healthcare workforce requirements.
- Maintain employee documentation relating to professional registration, licences and certifications where applicable.
- Support internal HR audits and ensure proper documentation for compliance reviews.
- Assist in reviewing and implementing HR policies, procedures and employee handbooks.
- Ensure the secure handling of confidential employee information and compliance with applicable data protection requirements.
- Prepare periodic HR reports on headcount, recruitment, turnover, leave, training and other workforce metrics.
- Maintain an updated employee database and organisational records.
- Support manpower planning and identify staffing gaps in collaboration with department heads.
- Monitor HR operational issues and recommend practical improvements to management.
- B.Sc. or HND in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, Psychology or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 2–4 years of relevant HR experience.
- Previous experience in a hospital, oncology centre, specialist clinic or other healthcare organisation is highly desirable.
- Good understanding of Nigerian labour laws, HR policies and employment practices.
- Practical experience in recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, HR administration and performance management.
- Working knowledge of payroll processes, statutory deductions and employee benefits.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word; experience with HRIS or payroll software is an advantage.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- High level of integrity, discretion and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- CIPM (Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria) certification or progress towards certification is an advantage.
- CIPD, SHRM or HRCI certification is an added advantage.
- Relevant training in payroll administration, Nigerian labour law, employee relations or HR analytics will be beneficial.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on HR professional with 2–4 years of practical experience who can independently coordinate routine HR activities while working effectively with management and employees.
The candidate should demonstrate strong organisational skills, sound judgement, confidentiality and the ability to work with both clinical and non-clinical teams. Experience in healthcare or oncology will be particularly valuable, especially where the candidate has supported professional credential tracking, workforce scheduling, recruitment of medical personnel and healthcare-related compliance.
